Mission Statement

For decades, America has struggled with the challenge of developing a national energy policy that can guarantee Americans the reliable and affordable supplies of energy needed for a sound economy and a rising standard of living.

It is painfully clear that America has not been successful in meeting that goal. This is despite much hard work that has been done by many members of congress, interested groups and organizations representing diverse interests and opinions.

What's also clear is that a lack of understanding of basic energy facts block success in forming a viable energy policy.

We see a pressing need for a broad-based national educational effort to place the energy debate on a realistic foundation and we'd like you to join in this effort.

Therefore, we are proposing a new concept, uniting various groups and organizations that individually have attempted to formulate ideas for an energy policy. The Energy Initiative Coalition would combine both producers of energy with consumers of energy to engage America in a dialogue on what's needed to meet the energy needs of the 21st century.

Various organizations have done good work, but alone they're unable to produce broad understanding of the components of sound energy policy. Absent understanding, consensus cannot be reach and the issues will be debated without progress for decades to come.

We propose the creation of a coalition of groups that would establish and carry out this national energy policy education project. It would receive counsel from a diverse, prominent board of advisors.

By combining existing organizations, we will have a ready supply of information and ideas to convey to our audiences. This initiative would be a powerful statement across geographic and political lines that could produce broad agreement on what needs to be done for a national energy policy.
